Kim took up windsuring at age 19, during a spring break trip to Cancun with girlfriends from Brown University.

On the weekends from she competed - first as a weekend warrior, then as a US Sailing Team athlete, and finally as a USOC elite athlete.

For both 2001 and 2002, she was the top-ranked US Olympic hopeful training to represent the US at the 2004 Athens Games - until the Olympic Test Event injury in August 2002. 

Prior to 2002 injury, she worked for companies including PepsiCo Foods Frito-Lay International, E & J Gallo Winery and lastminute.com. 

Medicare took over at age 39.

 

Although she can no longer walk or easily go outdoors, she still enjoys everything about sports.
